2008 Llama Magic Class Schedule--Saturday, May 10
10:30 a.m. Llamas 101
This session will provide the new or prospective llama owner with important basic information on how to create a secure and healthy environment for raising and caring for llamas. Sound camelid husbandry practices will be discussed, and participants are encouraged to come with questions. Ann Barkley, president of Lamas of Minnesota, will lead the Llamas 101 classes and is happy to answer any questions you may have.
12:30 p.m. Cart Driving with Llamas
Dan Whittaker of Stillwater, Minnesota, will conduct a mini driving clinic, discussing and demonstrating the steps involved in teaching a llama to pull a cart. He will also demonstrate how to fit a driving harness on a llama and explain why both cart and harness need to be specifically designed for llamas in order to be safe and functional.
2:00 p.m. Making the Most of Llama Fiber
This class will focus on various ways to make use of llama fiber--from shearing and handling to processing and marketing. Tips will be given on how to decide whether to produce raw fleeces, batts, roving, yarn or finished products. Discussion and questions from participants is encouraged.
3:30 p.m. Llamas 101
This session will follow the same format as the 10:30 a.m. class described above.
